The picture below shows what the night sky looks like about 8PM on a
January evening. The picture covers an angle of about 90o on the
sky, facing south at middle, northern latitudes (about 40 degrees). To give
you a sense of scale, Your spread hand at arms length would cover about one
quarter the distance across the image.
These exercises are designed to give you practice in identifying stars and
constellations. In the exercises, you will be asked to point out a
constellation or star. Then, by clicking on the sky map where you think the
constellation or star is, you will get the name of the constellation and a
picture of it.
